The Electronic Income Reducer

A friend of mine Gareth Davies (www.gforceonline.co.uk) who is a speaker, consultant and an ex-professional footballer introduced me to the idea of the Electronic Income Reducer in the corner of the front lounge – yes, you know what I mean - the TV! It absorbs hour upon hour of your personal time when you could be learning or reflecting or developing something truly amazing. I know many people now who simply do not have a television in their house, and guess what they don’t miss it!

My Great Grandfather was a gifted wood carver – we have several pieces in our house today that he carved 100 years ago. This is something we just don’t make time to do nowadays. If I didn’t have a TV I would definitely have a hobby that absorbed time and allowed me to be truly creative. Maybe I should get rid of it? The trouble is it’s too useful as a hypnotic tool that quietens the ever-active mind! I do feel guilt when I watch utter rubbish and have nothing to show for it! The TV is definitely a habit and it’s amazing what conversations you and your family can have when you don’t rely upon it for entertainment.

Public Seminars

Because you have asked - Public Seminars are on their way – Look out this autumn for a range of public seminars on speaking, Faffing About and Business Development. It has become time to practice what I preach and listen to my clients and colleagues alike, “Mike can we attend some public seminars for our teams?” Watch this space dates and venues will follow shortly.

This was reinforced by a conversation I had with a colleague of mine Will Kintish (www.kintish.co.uk) and his simple views on seminars are as follows – Running a seminar is an effective way of showing prospects, existing clients and professional contacts what experts you are in particular fields. Give away free and valuable information as an integral part of your marketing. When you make a presentation to your relevant audience you're saying "I've earned the right to be up here; I'm an authority."

Faff Update

The reviews and feedback on Faff have been excellent – as we speak the second print run is being produced. I thought it fair to share a couple of testimonials from people that have become huge fans of the book and the principles contained within it.

They say if you want a job doing, find a busy person. Effective people manage their time to maximise their potential. There are many ideas in this book that have helped me become more effective. I would recommend it to anyone who values their time.

Bob Parker – MD Forever Living Products UK

“Don’t FAFF just read it! On the train, instead of wasting time watching rubbish on TV read a chapter, in between meetings read a bit. Take a nugget each day or week and use it. If you’ve seen some of the principles before re-visit them. My businesses earn millions of pounds of profits annually and I found time to read it. Time is more important than money. Money can be made by using time wisely. Make more time for family, make more time for fun! Read it and read it again. Life long learners are happy people!”

Mark Allen CIMA Members in Practice Group, Entrepreneur & PROBIZ Central Limited

“In it’s simplest terms, Mike’s book “Faff” is a great business toolbox. You probably don’t need all the tools in the book at once (or if you do, you really need to speak to Mike!!!), so dipping in and out of the book to address individual problems that you are facing is by far the best way to get the most out of it. Within, there are some real pearls of wisdom, not based on theory or copied from anyone else, but actual pieces of wisdom that Mike has learned along the way and is happy to share with you. This is really what sets this book apart from many other ‘business’ books I have read. It isn’t patronising; it doesn’t lecture you; it doesn’t berate you for having faults, quite the contrary, it says ‘welcome to my world’ and helps you proactively working on your faults. I rarely recommend any book, and only ever do so if I feel that the book gave me a real and tangible return on the time investment I put into reading it and on this occasion I have no hesitation in recommending Faff to anyone who is looking to improve on their individual efficiency and productivity.”

PS – Wyatt & Webster?

As many of you know we are volunteers for the - guide dogs association For the past 4 years we have ‘fostered’ Zita our black Labrador who has become a wonderful part of the family

I am very pleased to say that in the last week two of her puppies born on our laundry floor just over 2 years ago have started work as guide dogs with their new owners. I thought I would take this opportunity to congratulate Zita on being a good mummy and wish Wyatt and Webster good luck with their new owners as working guide dogs!

Faff – The Power of Doing Without Achieving

Here is a snippet from the introduction for you.

This book is written for people like you and me, individuals who are great at what they do, have so much to give and achieve, with amazing amounts of potential. Unfortunately we are also brilliant at putting obstacles in our way, doing the doing while not achieving. Finding other things to do, rather than what it is needed or at worst just plodding along in the same old way when a change or new approach would achieve so much more.
